Introduction
For twenty-seven
years I worked in the criminal justice system as a probation
agent, and during that time, I had the privilege of
working with prosecutors, defense attorneys and judges.
During those years I developed an admiration and affection
for the men and women of the law. However, I have been
concerned that there is so little in the way of ministry
presenting the only way of salvation in a way that might
appeal to those in the legal profession. Ironically,
full-time chaplains and dozens of volunteers regularly
visit the prisons and jails to serve the spiritual needs
of the inmates, but I know of no individuals or organizations
which are presenting the Christian gospel to the men
and women of the legal profession, even though the spiritual
need for the grace of God is identical for everyone.
If we invest much to bring the good news to those who
break the law, shouldn’t we also invest at least
a little to those who work to uphold the law?
